OpenAI has expanded its ChatGPT offerings with the introduction of the low-cost Go plan, now available to users in the United States and worldwide. Initially launched in India in August, the tier later extended to 170 countries before the recent global rollout. OpenAI reported a strong response from users who have been turning to Go for a variety of purposes including writing, learning, image creation, and everyday problem-solving.

Priced at $8 per month, the Go plan provides more messages, file uploads, and image generation capabilities than the free version of ChatGPT while remaining cheaper than the $20-per-month Plus subscription. This positions Go as an intermediate option for users seeking enhanced access without committing to the higher-tier plan. According to OpenAI, the plan specifically targets users who want broader and faster access to its latest model, GPT-5.2 Instant. Free users are currently allowed to send 10 messages every five hours using GPT-5.2 before being moved to a lighter version of the model, while Plus subscribers receive 160 messages every three hours.

Go subscribers are expected to gain roughly ten times the messages, files, and images of the free tier, which translates to around 100 GPT-5.2 messages per usage window. While OpenAI has not disclosed exact time limits or daily quotas for file uploads and image generation, the plan is clearly designed to enhance the productivity of users who rely heavily on the platform. Memory and context length will also see improvements for Go users, though precise figures have not yet been shared. Free users currently receive a 16K context window for non-reasoning tasks, with Plus users gaining 32K, while both tiers support a 196K window for reasoning requests.

Another upcoming change involves advertising within the Go plan. OpenAI confirmed that ads will soon appear for Go subscribers in the United States, while Plus and higher-priced subscriptions will remain ad-free. This suggests that the Go plan is intended to offer a balance between affordability and access to premium features, with some trade-offs in the form of advertising support. The rollout of Go reflects OpenAI’s strategy to provide a scalable AI service that meets the needs of different user segments, from casual users to those requiring more intensive access for professional and creative tasks.

The introduction of ChatGPT Go also reinforces the growing adoption of AI tools for daily tasks and professional workflows. By offering a cost-effective solution with expanded capabilities, OpenAI aims to attract users who need frequent access to GPT-5.2 Instant for various applications such as drafting content, coding assistance, and generating visual content. Users interested in the Go plan are encouraged to visit OpenAI’s official site to subscribe and explore the enhanced messaging, file handling, and image generation capabilities available under the new tier.
