The Ministry of IT and Telecom is set to establish the National Computer Emergency Response Team (NCERT) after receiving approval from the Federal Cabinet. This move, aligned with the Prevention of Electronic Crimes 2016 and CERT rules 2023, represents a significant stride in enhancing Pakistan’s cybersecurity framework.
With groundwork laid out under the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) project “Cyber Security for Digital Pakistan,” the National CERT is well-prepared for action. Skilled personnel have been recruited, and essential software and hardware have been procured to ensure swift responsiveness.
The newly launched PKCERT website will serve as a vital platform for educating the public about cyber threats, including cyber-attacks, cyber terrorism, and cyber espionage. Once officially established, the National CERT will seamlessly integrate with existing initiatives, fostering a unified approach to cybersecurity.
The forthcoming National Cyber Emergency Response Team of Pakistan will play a crucial role in safeguarding digital assets, sensitive information, and critical infrastructure. Its responsibilities encompass detecting, preventing, and responding to cyber threats, as well as promoting cybersecurity awareness, conducting research and development, and implementing robust policies to fortify the nation’s digital landscape.
