In a significant development, Lahore has reinstated its e-challan system after a hiatus of one year. With the relaunch, authorities are taking swift action against vehicles that default on e-challans, targeting violations such as disregarding traffic signals, lane boundaries, stop lines, and overspeeding.
The Punjab Safe Cities Authority’s (PSCA) cameras are now actively monitoring one-way traffic violations and smoke-emitting vehicles. Offenders will be promptly issued e-challans for their traffic infractions.
This revival comes after authorities initiated efforts to reinstate the digital fine system in September. The traffic police had resorted to manual fines when over 30% of PSCA’s cameras in the city experienced malfunctions.
Earlier in June, the Punjab government sealed a deal with a Chinese company to restore the malfunctioning cameras, marking a step towards the revival of the e-challan system. Last month, the Punjab Transport Department (PTD) also announced plans to digitize traffic fines throughout the province, indicating a broader initiative toward modernizing traffic management.
