KP’s IT board keeps shining as the province continues to digitize government and citizen services, and this is evident in the live monitoring of the one million tree plantation drive planned across 289 sites on Pakistan Day. Every plantation site is geo-tagged, and live streams from the ground feed directly into a central digital dashboard, allowing authorities to track sapling distribution, planting progress, and on-site activities in real-time. This integration of technology ensures transparency and efficiency while highlighting how digital governance can enhance large-scale environmental initiatives.
Secretary, Climate Change, Forestry, Environment and Wildlife Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Junaid Khan, emphasized that the campaign is part of the Chief Minister’s “Green Khyber Pakhtunkhwa” vision. He noted that planting one million trees in a single day is an unprecedented achievement in Pakistan’s history and reflects the province’s commitment to environmental responsibility. Khan linked this ecological initiative to the national significance of Pakistan Day, recalling March 23, 1940, when the Pakistan Resolution was passed. He described the drive as a “Green Pledge” to protect the blessings of independence and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.
Muhammad Junaid Dayar, Project Director of the 10 Billion Tree Tsunami Project and focal person for the March 23 campaign, explained that saplings have already been dispatched from government forest nurseries to all districts. The plantation drive will formally commence at 9:00 AM and continue until all saplings are planted. To ensure complete documentation, a specialized software application has been deployed, allowing participants to submit live updates, photos, and videos. The application also supports offline data submission in areas with limited connectivity, making the digital monitoring process seamless and comprehensive even in remote regions.
The record-setting initiative will see participation from government departments, educational institutions, district administrations, Motorway Police, Pakistan Railways, local communities, and Pakistan Armed Forces. Officials emphasized that every citizen’s contribution, even planting a single tree, strengthens the foundation of a green and sustainable Pakistan. By combining traditional environmental efforts with modern digital monitoring tools, the province is setting a new benchmark for transparency, coordination, and citizen engagement in nationwide ecological projects. This campaign demonstrates how technology can amplify both the scale and impact of environmental initiatives while fostering a culture of digital-enabled civic responsibility.
