Karachi Literature Festival 2018 Starts Today!

Every year since its successful inception in 2010, Oxford University Press has been annually organizing the Karachi Literature Festival. So, 2018 is no exception as the biggest literary event is all set to take place on the 9th of February till the 11th of February 2018 at the Beach Luxury Hotel.

KLF is the brainchild of Ameena Saiyid and Asif Farrukhi that brings together authors writing in diverse languages and genres. Speaking to IDG Pakistan team earlier, Ameena Saiyid, Managing Director OUP Pakistan and co-founder and Director at Karachi Literature Festival and Islamabad Literature Festival, said,

I call this a movement. It’s a movement for literature, reading, for expression, for discussion and the Karachi Literature Festival was the first of its kind to be held in Pakistan. It gives us immense pleasure to see that there are multitudes of festivals happening around the country celebrating literature.

Featuring debates, discussions, talks, English and Urdu mushaira, a book fair, book launches, readings, signings, satire, theatre, film screenings, music, dance, and art programming. KLF every year serves as a treat for the literati of Karachi.

A counterpart of the same is also held in the capital every year as well, known as the Islamabad Literature Festival that was launched in 2013.

Various sessions throughout the three days features talks on child abuse, literature, cricket, Sufism, Urdu literature, Sindhi Literature, cricket, and the partition etc. For more details you can visit the KLF website.

There are 19 book launches at this year’s KLF! 

On the third and final day, there is a treat for the techies out there as well, as there is a whole session dedicated to entrepreneurship called “Entrepreneurship today: Start-ups and Angel Investors.” The speakers for the plenary include big names from the industry i.e. Nadeem Hussain, Amir Adnan, Hareem Bari and Vaqar Ahmed.

Do not miss one of the biggest and the most happening event of the season, happening this weekend. Best part about KLF is that it is absolutely free to attend and open to all!
