Pakistan’s first 1.2Tbps (1200Gbps) transport network trial was successfully completed by Jazz, the country’s top digital operator and a member of the VEON Group. With this technology, optical fibre capabilities over a single wavelength are increased by 50% from their current 800Gbps level.
The Jazz commercial network was upgraded to 1.2 Tbps per wavelength as part of the testing, which was carried out in a live network in partnership with Huawei. Jazz is the first network operator to implement a cutting-edge transport network solution. This innovative technology will help Jazz handle the expanding demand for data services from its clients with over 15,000 active cell sites.
Commenting on this industry-first development, Jazz’s Chief Technology Officer, Khalid Shehzad said,
“Our customers are increasingly using high-bandwidth applications which has led to an amplified demand for faster data. The 1.2T technology allows us the freedom to provide more data at greater speeds in an efficient manner enabling our customers to use enhanced services on their 4G devices.”
With an increase in low-latency services like virtual meetings, online gaming, video streaming, and other such services, the demand for broadband speed and volume dramatically increases. Jazz recently successfully introduced 800G technology on its metro and datacenter networks, as well as 400G technology on its long-haul optical transport network.
