Federal Minister for IT & Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja held a strategic meeting with David Frantic, Regional Business Head at Microsoft, aimed at strengthening collaboration in key areas of Pakistan’s digital transformation agenda. The engagement focused on aligning government priorities with private sector expertise to accelerate technology adoption and build a more inclusive digital ecosystem. Both sides discussed how public private cooperation can play a central role in improving digital infrastructure, expanding access to advanced technologies, and preparing the workforce for emerging digital opportunities.

A major focus of the discussion was artificial intelligence skilling and capacity building, reflecting the growing importance of AI across industries and public services. The minister highlighted the government’s commitment to equipping students, professionals, and young entrepreneurs with future ready digital skills that match global standards. Microsoft shared insights into its global training platforms, certification programs, and learning tools that can help strengthen local talent development. The collaboration aims to expand access to technology education, support workforce upskilling, and encourage the adoption of AI driven solutions across sectors such as education, healthcare, finance, and governance.

Cloud infrastructure and digital governance were also central themes during the meeting, as Pakistan continues to modernize public sector operations and data management systems. The discussions explored how cloud based platforms can enhance efficiency, scalability, and security for government services while supporting transparent and responsive digital governance frameworks. Microsoft’s experience in enterprise cloud solutions and digital transformation initiatives was discussed as a potential enabler for accelerating digitization across ministries and public institutions. The engagement also touched on strengthening cybersecurity practices and ensuring compliance with data protection standards as digital services continue to expand.

Support for startups and innovation enablement formed another key area of collaboration, with both sides recognizing the rapid growth of Pakistan’s entrepreneurial landscape. The minister emphasized the need to provide startups with access to technical resources, cloud services, mentorship, and global networks to help them scale their solutions. Microsoft’s startup programs and developer platforms were highlighted as tools that could support early stage companies in building and deploying technology driven products. The discussions also explored ways to integrate startups into national digital initiatives, creating opportunities for innovation to address local challenges.

Empowering youth through technology focused programs was presented as a shared priority, given Pakistan’s large young population and its potential to drive long term digital growth. The meeting covered expanding digital literacy campaigns, coding boot camps, and innovation challenges designed to engage young people with emerging technologies such as AI, data analytics, and cloud computing. By connecting education institutions, industry partners, and government initiatives, the collaboration aims to create sustainable pathways for youth participation in the digital economy.

The engagement reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen public private collaboration as a foundation for Pakistan’s digital development strategy. By working closely with global technology leaders like Microsoft, the Ministry of IT & Telecom seeks to accelerate innovation, enhance infrastructure, and build human capital capable of supporting a knowledge driven economy. The discussions underscored a shared commitment to advancing technology driven growth while ensuring inclusive access to digital opportunities across the country.
