Wuhan Qingfa Hesheng Seed Company Ltd has partnered with Pakistani universities, research institutes, and agribusinesses to bring advanced cultivation techniques and modern seed technologies to the country. Zhou Xusheng, Country Director of the company, emphasized that educating farmers remains a central pillar of their strategy. According to Zhou, providing quality seed is not sufficient on its own; farmers must be trained in proper usage to fully realize the benefits. The company has designed programs to build long-term research capacity in Pakistan, focusing on climate stress mitigation and addressing the growing demand for food.

The company operates both online and in-person training programs for technicians and partner teams, covering cultivation practices, variety characteristics, and climate risk management. Zhou highlighted the importance of knowledge transfer, saying that sustainable growth relies on teaching farmers practical skills, much like the Chinese proverb about teaching people to catch fish rather than just giving them fish. Each year, Wuhan Qingfa Hesheng organizes over 100 field training sessions in Pakistan, and its guiding philosophy is “study in China, utilize in Pakistan.”

Under this collaboration, 1,000 Pakistani agriculture graduates have completed three-month training programs in China. These programs were co-hosted by Wuhan Qingfa Hesheng and Huazhong Agricultural University, with a curriculum tailored to Pakistan’s seed technology requirements. Participants not only attended classroom sessions but also received hands-on exposure at China’s National Agricultural Park and National Agricultural High Technology Zone. Trainees were connected with fertilizer, agrochemical, seed, horticulture, and food processing companies to observe how Chinese enterprises implement modern agricultural technologies across the production chain. Upon returning to Pakistan, students are expected to join ongoing field programs to apply their newly acquired knowledge.

Women’s participation in agriculture is another key focus for the company, which plans to work with local governments to support family-based processing initiatives. These initiatives aim to create income opportunities for women while promoting household nutrition. Pakistan’s fertile soil, favorable climate, and committed workforce provide significant agricultural potential; however, frequent heatwaves and floods due to climate change highlight the need for heat-tolerant crop varieties. To meet this challenge, Wuhan Qingfa Hesheng is developing varieties locally in Pakistan while also expanding winter crop programs to introduce leading Chinese vegetable varieties. These efforts aim to support the country’s large population and strong domestic vegetable demand, helping farmers maintain consistent supply and productivity.
