China and Pakistan have taken a significant step towards promoting sustainable development through a new partnership.
The International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (CBAS) in China and Pakistan’s Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to leverage space technology and big data for sustainable resource management.
This collaboration will focus on utilizing data from the Sustainable Development Science Satellite 1 (SDGSAT-1), the first satellite dedicated to supporting the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The data collected by SDGSAT-1 will be used to conduct joint research initiatives between China and Pakistan, aiming to gain valuable insights for regional sustainable development goals.
Professor Guo Huadong, Director-General of CBAS, emphasized the importance of big data and technological innovation in tackling the challenges outlined in the UN’s sustainable development goals. He highlighted the potential of enhanced data collection, analysis, and sharing in informing better decision-making for a sustainable future.
The partnership signifies a commitment from both countries to address global challenges through collaboration.
By combining China’s expertise in big data and Pakistan’s space research capabilities, this initiative positions them as leaders in utilizing technology for a sustainable future.
