Cambridge University Press & Assessment and the Syed Ahsan Ali and Syed Maratib Ali School of Education (SOE) at LUMS have formalized a partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening teacher education and leadership in Pakistan. The signing ceremony, held at LUMS, set the foundation for a strategic collaboration focused on improving the quality of teaching and learning nationwide through professional development, research, and evidence-based programmes.
The collaboration will combine Cambridge’s global expertise in education, including its international qualifications, quality assurance frameworks, and research experience, with LUMS’ academic strength, research-driven approach, and outreach across Pakistan. Together, the two institutions intend to build capacity among educators and school leaders, improve student outcomes, and support the development of innovative practices within classrooms. Cambridge will provide technical expertise and global best practices, while LUMS will leverage its faculty and policy influence to extend the reach and impact of this initiative.
Peter Phillips, CEO of Cambridge University Press & Assessment, noted that the agreement with LUMS reflects a shared mission of educational excellence. He highlighted how the partnership combines Cambridge’s global standing with LUMS’ national leadership to build a stronger foundation for teacher training and capacity development in Pakistan. Similarly, Uzma Yousuf, Country Director Pakistan at Cambridge International Education, emphasized the long-term impact this collaboration seeks to achieve. She underscored the importance of sustainable initiatives that empower educators and contribute meaningfully to the country’s education landscape.
Dr. Tayyaba Tamim, Dean of the School of Education at LUMS, explained that the collaboration reflects a joint commitment to co-develop solutions that are both evidence-based and scalable. By pooling expertise, she said, the two institutions can move beyond isolated interventions to create sustainable programmes that directly impact classroom learning. The agreement also opens the door for further cooperation in programme design, research, and developing new business models to sustain such initiatives.
The MoU represents an important step in the evolution of Pakistan’s education sector, bringing international expertise together with national academic leadership. It lays the groundwork for co-creating qualifications, research collaborations, and professional training that will equip teachers and school leaders with the tools needed to improve learning outcomes. Both Cambridge and LUMS have reaffirmed their commitment to long-term engagement and capacity building, which is expected to benefit educators, students, and institutions across the country.
