As Pakistan’s technology sector continues to surge, the leadership of the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) plays a pivotal role in shaping its trajectory. Ali Raza, the new CEO of PSEB, is at the helm of this transformation, driving innovation and fostering a conducive environment for growth. In this exclusive interview with CWPakistan, we take a look at his journey and his ambition to make Pakistan TechDestination of the world.

With a deep-rooted background in the technology industry, Raza brings a wealth of experience to his role. “I’ve been working in the tech industry for almost 15 years now,” he shares.

“From co-founding Pakistan’s largest private sector ISP to leading Alibaba Cloud in Pakistan, I’ve witnessed firsthand the potential of technology to drive economic growth.”

Raza’s appointment to PSEB came at a crucial time for Pakistan’s IT sector. “I believe this is the biggest opportunity one can get to add value to the IT sector,” he says. “It’s a sector with immense potential to contribute to Pakistan’s economic development.”

Navigating Challenges and Seizing Opportunities

Raza’s tenure at PSEB has been marked by a strategic focus on addressing the sector’s challenges and capitalizing on emerging opportunities. He acknowledges the supply-demand gap in the industry and the need to enhance Pakistan’s reputation as a global tech destination.

“We need to fill that demand and supply gap,” Raza emphasizes. “Our immediate vision is to rebrand Pakistan as a preferred global tech destination. We’re participating in international exhibitions, engaging with international media, and showcasing Pakistan’s success stories.”

One of Raza’s key priorities is to promote Pakistan’s emerging tech verticals, such as AI, gaming, and software development. He encourages young professionals to focus on these areas and acquire the necessary skills to compete in the global market.

“Pakistan has a thriving gaming industry,” Raza explains. “We have the potential to not only consume but also produce high-quality games. Similarly, AI and software development are emerging areas where Pakistan can excel.”

Strengthening Global Ties and Fostering Collaboration

Raza recognizes the importance of international collaboration and strategic partnerships. “We’re working closely with countries like Saudi Arabia, Japan, and those in Central Asia,” he says. “We’re exploring opportunities for knowledge transfer, technology exchange, and joint ventures.”

PSEB is also actively engaged in promoting Pakistan’s IT sector in regional and global markets. “We’re participating in international events like TechCrunch to showcase our capabilities and attract investment,” Raza adds.

Policy Advocacy and Government Engagement

Raza’s leadership extends beyond industry promotion. He actively advocates for policies that support the growth of Pakistan’s IT sector. “We’re working closely with the government to streamline processes, reduce bureaucratic hurdles, and create a conducive environment for businesses,” he explains.

The establishment of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) is a significant step in this direction. Raza believes that SIFC will expedite decision-making and create a more favorable environment for investment.

A Bright Future for Pakistan’s Tech Sector

With Raza at the helm of PSEB, Pakistan’s IT sector is poised for significant growth. His vision, coupled with his strategic approach, is inspiring confidence among industry stakeholders.

As Raza concludes, “Pakistan has all the ingredients to become a leading global tech destination. With the right policies, investment, and talent development, we can achieve our ambitious goals.”
