Meta, in collaboration with the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT), hosted “Future in Focus: AI and Innovation,” an event aimed at accelerating digital transformation and promoting artificial intelligence adoption in Pakistan. The gathering brought together leaders from government, industry, and academia to explore the country’s growing role in AI-driven innovation. At the event, Meta announced a series of initiatives to empower the public sector and local communities, marking a significant step toward strengthening Pakistan’s digital ecosystem.
A key highlight was the introduction of Urdu language support for Meta AI, allowing users in Pakistan to interact with the assistant in both English and Urdu. This enhancement aims to make technology more accessible and inclusive by enabling people to access information and express themselves in their native language. Meta also launched the localized version of its “Transforming Public Sector Innovation in Asia Pacific with Llama” guide, developed in partnership with Deloitte. Supported by MoITT, the guide demonstrates how Meta’s open-source AI model, Llama, can help governments enhance service delivery, streamline operations, and promote data sovereignty. Drawing from successful case studies across Asia Pacific, including Pakistan’s progress in digital governance, the guide provides best practices for deploying AI responsibly and sustainably within public sector frameworks.
Meta further expanded its commitment to AI education through a collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC), National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC), MoITT, and atomcamp. Together, they launched an AI Literacy Program designed to upskill 350 non-Computer Science faculty members across universities in Pakistan. The initiative focuses on building core AI competencies among educators, equipping them to prepare future generations for the evolving job market. Fizza Amjad, CEO of atomcamp, stated that by equipping non-technical faculty with AI knowledge, the program will have a broad impact across disciplines, ensuring that AI understanding extends beyond computer science. She emphasized that the collaboration bridges the gap between academia and industry, creating a stronger foundation for AI integration in higher education.
The event also introduced the Government Digital Transformation Xperience (GDTX) 2025 program, which aims to support public institutions in adopting modern technologies and innovative practices. The initiative connects experts from both the public and private sectors to share insights, strategies, and solutions that can accelerate digital transformation in government operations. Speaking on the occasion, Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja said that under the Prime Minister’s Digital Nation Vision, Pakistan is advancing toward a future where technology empowers every citizen. She added that the partnership with Meta aligns with the government’s mission to promote AI literacy and innovation, and the introduction of Urdu for Meta AI represents an important step toward making technology more inclusive for all Pakistanis.
Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar, Vice Chair of NCEAC, emphasized the importance of faculty development in improving computing education nationwide. He noted that the collaboration with Meta creates opportunities for educators to play a central role in shaping the next era of AI-driven learning and innovation. Sarim Aziz, Director of Public Policy South and Central Asia at Meta, reaffirmed Meta’s dedication to supporting Pakistan’s AI and innovation goals. He said the new initiatives, in partnership with MoITT, HEC, and NCEAC, will help both the public sector and academia harness AI for digital transformation. He also highlighted that introducing Urdu for Meta AI will open new opportunities for communities across Pakistan to engage with technology in a language they understand best.
Through these initiatives, Meta continues to strengthen its engagement with Pakistan’s digital transformation journey. By promoting AI literacy, encouraging responsible AI use, and supporting public sector modernization, Meta aims to help build a more inclusive and technologically empowered society.
