The camera array expands with a 48 MP telephoto capable of 4× optical zoom—effectively doubling reach to 8× with what Apple calls “optical-quality” crops. These are not showy changes but foundational ones, the kind that extend the phone’s useful life.
What makes the iPhone 17 cycle compelling is the structural repositioning. Apple has cannibalized its own upsell strategy.
