Saudi Arabia has emerged as the top international destination for Pakistani travelers, with a remarkable 100% year-on-year increase in visitor numbers, according to data from “Wego,” a leading travel service app in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. This surge highlights the growing appeal of Saudi Arabia for Pakistani tourists, driven by religious, business, and leisure travel. The Kingdom’s ongoing tourism expansion, fueled by Vision 2030, has positioned it as a global travel hub, attracting millions of visitors from across the world, including a significant portion from Pakistan.

Saudi Arabia’s tourism sector is undergoing rapid transformation with massive development projects such as NEOM, a futuristic city designed to be a beacon of innovation, and The Red Sea Project, which focuses on luxury and eco-tourism. These initiatives are part of the country’s broader efforts to diversify its economy and reduce dependence on oil revenues. The Kingdom has also heavily invested in infrastructure to accommodate the increasing influx of visitors, with new hotels, airports, and entertainment venues being developed to support the growing tourism sector.

For Pakistanis, Saudi Arabia has long been a preferred travel destination, primarily due to religious reasons. Every year, thousands of Pakistani Muslims visit Makkah and Madinah for Hajj and Umrah, with numbers peaking during Ramadan. The introduction of more flexible visa policies, improved transport facilities, and enhanced accommodations has made it easier for travelers to embark on religious pilgrimages. Additionally, the rising number of Pakistanis traveling for business and tourism underscores the strengthening ties between the two nations.

To further cater to the increasing demand, Wego has introduced its online travel booking platform, “Book on Wego,” for Pakistani users. The company’s recent report indicates that the surge in Pakistani travelers to Saudi Arabia is part of a broader trend of increasing digital adoption in travel planning. By leveraging Wego’s digital platform, travelers can book flights and hotels with greater ease, access a wider range of travel options, and enjoy exclusive discounts. The company has also integrated localized payment solutions, making the booking experience more seamless for Pakistani users.

In alignment with this trend, Wego is actively participating in the Pakistan Travel Mart (PTM 2025), one of the largest travel and tourism events in Pakistan. This year, the Saudi Tourism Authority is the title sponsor of the event, underscoring Saudi Arabia’s commitment to attracting more Pakistani tourists. At PTM 2025, Wego is showcasing its award-winning marketplace, highlighting the advantages of booking through its platform, including secure payment options, low-cost airline deals, and partnerships with renowned hotel chains and local accommodation providers.

Dan Wicks, Chief Flights Officer at Wego, stated that domestic flight searches on the app have increased by over 120% year-on-year, while Saudi Arabia continues to dominate as a top international destination for Pakistani travelers. He emphasized that Wego’s recent travel agency license from Pakistan’s Department of Tourism Services has enabled the company to expand its offerings and cater to the evolving needs of Pakistani travelers. To enhance the booking experience, Wego is also offering special incentives such as 1GB of free mobile data and a free eSIM for users booking international flights through the platform.

With over 2.5 million Pakistanis residing in Saudi Arabia, the travel volume between the two countries continues to grow. Apart from fulfilling religious obligations, many Pakistanis travel to the Kingdom for business, employment, and tourism. The ongoing improvements in visa facilitation, digital travel services, and tourism infrastructure indicate that Saudi Arabia will remain a key destination for Pakistani travelers in the coming years. The collaboration between Wego and the Saudi Tourism Authority, along with the broader advancements in the Kingdom’s travel sector, reflects a concerted effort to strengthen tourism ties and enhance the overall travel experience for Pakistani visitors.
