Wireless and Internet Service Providers Association of Pakistan (WISPAP) has called on Pakistan Telecommunication Authority to adopt international best practices to ensure fair competition and quality service delivery in Pakistan’s internet sector.

WISPAP Chairman Shahzad Arshad criticized recent revelations about restrictive practices by major IP bandwidth providers, such as PTCL and Transworld Associates. These practices, including setting restrictive price floors and imposing unfair conditions on smaller ISPs, stifle competition and harm consumers.

Arshad urged the PTA to prohibit anti-competitive practices and ensure open access to bandwidth for all ISPs. He also recommended the establishment of privately-owned Internet Exchange Points to reduce latency and costs.

By implementing these measures, Pakistan can create a more competitive and inclusive internet ecosystem that benefits both providers and consumers. This will ultimately contribute to the country’s economic growth and development.
