The dictionary calls it a word now. Urban dictionary puts it together as: “A picture taken of you that is planned to be uploaded to Facebook, Myspace or any other sort of social networking website. You can usually see the person’s arm holding out the camera, in which case you can clearly tell that this person does not have any friends to take pictures of them.”

Ouch! So, in fact, a selfie is, in other words, a reflection of a ravaged, narcissistic soul with poor social health, leading a satellite existence? We’ll answer all those for you. What could this trend possibly mean, you say?

Keep a glass of:

  • 17,000 % between October 2012 and October 2013.
  • 177 million photos have been uploaded to Instagram with the hashtag ”me”

More synapse swells – on the ready, now!

  • Belfie – a Kardashian- inspired behind selfie
  • Delfie – a drunk selfie
  • Helfie –a hairdo selfie
  • Shelfie –a furniture selfie – whatever that means! It is hard keeping up, I swear!

As Big as a Nose

The recent selfie of the groupie clicking away with so many teeth – Jaws, anyone – at probably one of the most prestigious event of the history of America – RTing at 2 million Retweets encompassing a whole city of the socially diseased – To the gas chambers, eh Hitler? The Oscar selfie, along with Ellen’s, the show’s host’s, strategic moves in using the changed the course of history, pushing behind Obama’s 300,000 retweets in the 2012 elections, making it a matter of utter shame, bringing national governance primed lower than national entertainment! If that isn’t vain, then what is?

The Barack Obama racked together with Cameroon and Schmidt, the Denmark Prime Minister, on the other hand saw an opportunity to selfie at a funeral. We all understand the difference in opinion, and photo imaging. But don’t democratic nations, also, teach better values, Sir – to value the dead perhaps?

Djokovick and Andy savoured a moment they were never to witness again at the Madison Square Garden, earlier this month “We might never get the chance to play here again,” Murray said. “Wanted to enjoy it,” said a jubilant Murray, showing that when right, the selfie isn’t as bad as they think it is, is it now?

The Snot Runs Down Green

From paying a tribute by the star cast of the ‘Pretty little liars’ at the Dolby Theatre Simpsonising the selfie itself, #oscars and #oscars2014, the pop culture that this one selfie has created, and therefore sliding down everyone into this mucky pool, also taking out a “Keep Calm And Selfie On“ shirt has also come out giving it some serious hot air, just as the Balloonist recreating the scene in helium.

The Phlegm Down Pour

If that wasn’t it, a selfie application by the name of CamMe won the “Most Innovative app” at the Global Mobile Awards in Barcelona, allows users to take pictures without ever having to push a button. It is powered by gesture control and hence takes a selfie right, each time.

What Does the ‘Doc’ Say?

Whether social media, and thereby a selfie, has a way of connecting with the fans for the celebrities – intrinsically linked to narcissism, because aren’t the fans a manifestation of the actor’s worth, in any case? Whatever the intentions, and the conjectures, this is what science of the mind has to say about the social phenomenon banking on phones, apps, and beauty fitness regimes

People who take selfies are narcissistic in nature, so a study in three business schools of Europe confirms, titled “Tagger’s Delight? Disclosure and liking behaviour in Facebook: the effects of sharing photographs amongst multiple known social circles.” Such people are more prone to having shallow relationships. With a sample of about 508 people from the age group 24 depicted a decrease in the pleasure they derived from relationships.

People who post a lot of their pictures online are at risk to forging shallow relationships said Dr. David Houghton, a professor at Birmingham Business School and lead author of the paper.

Reclaiming yourself who can only mean good things: however, being done at a massive scale like this makes it very

Blow it All Out, Dear

Bringing out a child in this world, would require one to stock up on not the usual staples – the nappies, rompers, but S3 5s. Not to mention a little alteration on the nursery rhymes too!

Ring Around your S3s,

Grab a Little Duck!

From the top,

Or get it cropped
