The Pakistan Institute of Robotic Science (PIRS) has recently been allocated the budget of Rs80 million for purchasing of apparatus and initiation of new employees by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
The headquarters of the robotic centre is established at NUST with five centers working in universities such as COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI), Punjab University, CIIT University Peshawar, NED University Karachi, and Lahore Engineering University.
HEC is to employ 20 people at the head quarters of the Robotic Centre and 10 employees in the centers established in the five universities.
Each robotic center focus on a different sector, the center at NUST focuses on the advancement of the agriculture sector under the Artificial Intelligence Program. The laboratory of Robotic Center of Punjab University has an ongoing research on the development of Transportation system with the aim to envelop areas concerning infrastructure, command, control, monitoring and security.
Meanwhile, COMSATS University has been tasked for the development of the health sector. Furthermore, CUI is also working to cover all areas of CT Scan, X-ray, including development in medical sector and the projects of advents through artificial intelligence.
Out of which 19 universities had shown interest in the robotic program only six universities were included in Robotic Program on the basis of merit.
