In a significant move to bolster security measures, authorities at Karachi Airport have implemented a Face Recognition System, a collaboration with the Federal Investigative Agency (FIA). This cutting-edge technology aims to curb the escape of criminals seeking refuge abroad.
The initiative began with the FIA’s request for criminal data from Sindh Police, which forms the foundation of the face recognition database now operational at Karachi Airport. While initially localized to Karachi, the system has been expanded to include airports nationwide, seamlessly integrated with existing surveillance camera networks.
The face recognition system is poised to play a pivotal role in identifying wanted individuals. As suspects pass through the airport’s surveillance cameras, the system promptly alerts authorities in the monitoring room, providing critical criminal data.
However, it’s worth noting that the activation of this state-of-the-art face recognition system is yet to be implemented at airports across the country, including Islamabad and Lahore. Consequently, efforts are ongoing to extend this essential security enhancement to other major airports nationwide.
