The Ministry of IT and Telecommunication (MoIT) has revealed that the Federal Government of Pakistan is preparing to introduce an online system for the temporary registration of mobile phones. This system will be available for foreign nationals and overseas Pakistanis who visit the country for short periods, allowing them to register their mobile devices for 120 days.
According to sources, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) collaborated with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to develop and integrate the temporary registration system (TRS).
The official launching event for the TRS initiative is expected to take place in the coming days.
Once the TRS is operational, overseas Pakistanis and foreign citizens visiting Pakistan will have the convenience of temporarily registering their mobile devices for 120 days without any customs fees. However, if the mobile device is intended for ongoing use in Pakistan beyond the specified period, it will be subject to applicable FBR customs duties and taxes.
This move aims to facilitate foreign visitors and ensure a smoother experience during their temporary stays in Pakistan.
